The terms we teach on

In short: your first lesson is free, your fee is agreed with you in writing and does not change without your agreement, there is no contract, and you may stop at any time.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are an agreement between Ikram Azom, trading as Shajaratun Tayyibah ("we", "us", "the school") and you, the parent or legal guardian enrolling a child ("you"). By booking a lesson or creating an account, you accept them.

Because our pupils are children, the agreement is always with an adult. A child cannot enrol themselves.

2. Our lessons

• Lessons are taught live and online, one-to-one or in small groups. We are not a physical school and children do not attend a building.
• We teach Qur'an and Tajweed, Arabic, and Islamic Studies, from Qaidah through to a Hifz pathway.
• Lesson times are agreed with you and held for your child each week.
• You are welcome to be present in any lesson, and we encourage it — particularly with younger children. You do not need to ask permission or give notice.
• You will need a device with a camera and microphone, and a reasonable internet connection. We cannot teach a lesson your child cannot be seen or heard in.

Your free trial

Your first lesson is a full trial lesson at no cost and with no obligation. If you decide not to continue afterwards, you owe us nothing and we will not chase you.

3. Fees

We do not publish a price list, because no two children need the same thing. Instead:

• We discuss what your child needs and agree a fee with you directly.
• We confirm that fee to you in writing before any paid lesson takes place.
• The fee does not change unless you agree to the change. We will always give you notice and you may decline.
• Fees are payable monthly in advance unless we have agreed something else with you.
• There is no contract and no minimum term. You may stop at any time.

4. Cancelling and missed lessons

• You need to cancel or move a lesson: please give us at least 24 hours' notice and we will rearrange it at no charge.
• Less than 24 hours, or nobody attends: the lesson is normally charged, because the teacher held that time for your child. We use common sense — illness and emergencies happen.
• We cancel a lesson: we will rearrange it, or credit it against your next fee. You will never be charged for a lesson we did not teach.
• Stopping altogether: tell us, and we will stop billing at the end of the period you have already paid for. No notice period, no cancellation fee.

5. The parent portal ("The Study")

Enrolled families get an account showing their child's lessons, milestones and recordings.

• Your account is for you. Please do not share your password. Tell us at once if you think someone else has it.
• You will only see your own children. You will never see another family's child, and no other family will see yours.
• You may only upload recordings of your own child. The system enforces this, and deliberately trying to get around it will end your account.
• We may suspend an account that is being misused, and we will tell you why.

Recordings you send us

You make these yourself, at home, and they normally show you together with your child rather than your child alone. We never ask a child to record themselves. Your consent covers your own image and voice as well as your child's.

• The recording remains yours. We hold it as part of your child's learning record and for no other purpose.
• We will never publish it, advertise with it, or share it outside the school.
• You may ask us to delete any recording at any time, without giving a reason.
• Please do not upload anything containing another family's child.

6. What we ask of you

• Have your child ready and in a quiet place at the agreed time.
• For younger children, stay nearby during the lesson.
• Tell us anything we should know — a learning need, a health matter, anything that affects how your child learns best.
• Treat our teachers with the courtesy you would expect for your own child. We will end an arrangement where a teacher is treated abusively, and we will not charge you for doing so.

7. What you can expect from us

• Teachers chosen for their knowledge and their patience with children, whose background and qualifications you can read before you choose.
• Every lesson written up in your child's record, so you can see what was covered.
• Honest reporting of progress. We will tell you when your child is struggling, not only when they are doing well.
• A reply to any message within two working days.

8. Safeguarding

The welfare of the children we teach comes before everything else. If we ever have a genuine concern that a child is at risk of harm, we will act on it, and that may mean contacting the appropriate authorities. We would tell you unless doing so would put the child at greater risk.

9. Things outside our control

Occasionally a lesson cannot go ahead — an internet failure, a power cut, illness, or something else neither of us can help. We will rearrange or credit the lesson. We are not able to compensate beyond that.

10. Our teaching materials

Worksheets and materials we give you are for your own child's learning. Please do not copy or distribute them more widely without asking us first.

11. Limits

We take real care over our teaching, but we cannot promise a particular outcome — no honest teacher can promise that a child will memorise a given amount by a given date. Our responsibility is limited to the fees you have paid us. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer are unaffected.

12. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we will update this page and change the date at the top, and we will tell enrolled families by email before any significant change takes effect.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere, this does not take away protections you have under your own local law.

14. Talking to us first

If something goes wrong, please tell us before anything else. Most problems are a misunderstanding and take one conversation to fix. Email shajaratuntayyibah@gmail.com.
